In the beginning of the story, the protagonist is a shepherd who is currently running away from Sparta with his trusty companion, Neda the talking goose. In the midst of his escape, he comes across a knight named Charlotte. She mistakes the protagonist for her prince, Orpheus, before becoming suspicious of his behavior.
